Beautifully Broken

“Beautifully broken” is an expression that many refer to as a means to accept pain, loss, or perhaps disappointment as a chance for growth. It can also refer to the idea that God can find beauty in brokenness and use it to create something of greater value.

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” Psalm 34:18 (NIV). This verse shows that God does not abandon us or leave us in pain but reaches out to draw us near to him; turning brokenness into a moment of divine closeness and restoration.

It is through that restoration that we recognize that Christ suffered on the cross in the utmost pain for us.  Tauren Wells, Pastor and Christian Music Artist said this; “The purpose of God actually enters into our life through the pain.  Allow that purpose to walk through the door of that pain. This is what builds the faith of others as they see your healing faith. This is when we find Joy beneath the Grief.”

I recently came across a picture of a sweet friend that we lost about 17 years ago. And out of nowhere, the grief hit me like a ton of bricks.  I didn’t realize that I had never really processed it. I had never taken the time to let God into that pain.  I had just (I thought) excepted it and moved on.

You see God doesn’t have a timetable on grief. He meets us when we are ready.  He already knew I needed to hear that interview with Tauren Wells on the JOYFM that morning. He saw my pain, lifted my chin, caught my tears in his hands, and listened as I penned the words that I needed to say goodbye.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.”  Ecclesiastes 3:11

April is rough month for my family. Birthdays of those we have lost, anniversaries of those we have lost and in some cases both.  But here is the thing I see. When we remember the ones we miss, yes there is still pain, but I watch my family though broken by grief, finding the Beauty in the memories and the legacies that they are sharing with their kids.

“You’re beautifully broken
And you can be whole again
Even a million scars doesn’t change whose you are
You’re worthy
Beautifully broken”

Lyrics from Beautifully Broken – Tauren Wells

May you feel the presence of the Lord today!
