“maybe that’s why God made you queen in the first place, ‘for such a time as this'”. Esther 4:14
As my thoughts moved passed the opening “Get to know me” Blog, I started to wonder what is next.
As my goal is to be authentic and God leading, I awaited the nudge from Him as to what direction to go.
As usual, God don’t play LOL. I walked into my bedroom, and on my new desk that I had set up to write these blogs, there it was,
…a box of Whoppers! I just looked up with a chuckle and said Thanks!
Now how are a box of whoppers from my husband an answer from God, you ask?
Friends…
Over the years I have made the best of friends. I have been Blessed to keep many of them since Grade School and some I have only known a short time.
When I moved back to Florida in 1991, we bought our First House on Pineland Ave in Venice.
As we were moving in, this spunky little 6-year-old girl came bouncing into our front yard introducing herself. And the rest was history.
And so, the “Pineland family” began that day. (Rest assured there is plenty more on the blog front to come from Pineland Ave, on Fatih, Family, Friends turned to Family and personal Forgiveness)
You see, the spunky girl was Sara’s daughter Darci.
Sara and I became best friends, we watched each other’s kids as if they were our own. We talked on the phone until midnight and we only lived 3 houses away.
She was there for me, NO judgement during a difficult time of divorce, single parenting, and she was my nightly therapist and so many other things. She was that one person that
I could share everything with; the good, the bad, and the ugly. In fact, early on she was the only person I would let read my short stories.
You see, I firmly believe that God gives us different besties for different seasons; like the story of Esther, “for such a time as this” Although Ester’s journey was different than mine or Sara’s it speaks to me.
Even though my relationship with God was pretty one sided at that time in my life, He was still faithful to send the right person for that moment in my life..
Ok back to the whoppers!
One of my fondest memories with Sara was a day the kids (5 between us) were in school, and we both somehow didn’t have work. We had the best day, just chilling with movies, and I even think we baked apple pies.
It was somewhere near Halloween and Sara had bought a huge bag of individually wrapped Whoopers. Picture with me a clear little wrapper that only held 3 whoppers. We proceeded to eat the WHOLE bag of delicious, malted goodness that afternoon over the course of a couple movies. If you could have seen the pile of wrappers, I kid you not it was 12” high on the table between us. It may be silly, but it makes me smile just to see a box of whoppers to this day. A special day and lifelong memory that signifies more than candy, but a lifelong friendship. We still get together every 6-8 weeks to have breakfast at the Wee Blew Inn, going on 35 years now. (Sad face – we had our last breakfast there July 22nd right before they closed. But rest assured we will still have breakfast somewhere. We will still share those old stories, new updates on our spouses, 6 kids and 9 grandkids and just feel the love of a friendship that God blessed us with so many years ago!
I hope you have experienced a friendship like that in your life, but more importantly are you looking for moments when YOU are called for “such a time as this”?
I feel called to write these stories to hopefully encourage young moms that are still in the trenches with young ones. Maybe your trench is not divorce, or single parenting on a dime, but loneliness, or loss of a loved one, lord knows being tired and overwhelmed is a struggle in its own. For each one of us it’s different. Wherever you are, know you are not alone, reach out, find that friend to talk to. Reach out to me! Reach out to Jesus! He wants to hear from you.
He loves you and He will help you find a way! He is a Mighty God! Let Him be Mighty- you can’t do it all on your own.
Not in the trenches? Maybe it’s your “time” to be there for a young mom or dad! Say a Prayer, send a card, cook a meal, text them and just let them know you are there!
“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar like wings on Eagles; they will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint” Isaiah 40:31 (My life verse)
Blessings from the heart of a friend!
Till next time,
Terry
